At that level, it's really not important to stack +hit, or as you state, nearly impossible. The real goal in gearing through heroics and in early Kara is to maximize effective health and remain uncrittable.

Since you're gearing now instead of when the rest of your server was likely improving gear, you're probably getting in groups where the DPSers have better gear than you, and pull agro off you. Running with your guild who is committed to helping you get geared is a great way of mitigating this, PUGs are probably going to be really frustrating.

Well im sort of in a bind because of the need to be able to stack as much stam as poss while also having the 490 defence mark and the 104% avoidance
+ having around 95 hit.
Im seriously not sure how any tanks who are just starting heroics are able to have that ammount of hit and not loose most if not all your defence and like wise stack stam and not loose some avoidance. the +hit gems are pethetic to be honest and it near impossible to fin ddecent + hit armour with also highe defence on it

i strongly disagree with the idea of stacking stamina and armor. this is an unfortunate thread, and i hope everyone who reads this far looks for more information on gearing. though i must say i like the rest of this site, this is one where i couldn't disagree more. you say stam and armor are reliable because you know you're gonna get hit all of the time and you want to block that extra 200 damage with your armor and rely on the (way too many because you're taking way too much damage) healers to bail you out because you don't know how to gear yourself correctly. yes, you definitely need a ton of stam to avoid worst-case scenarios, but lessening their likelihood while decreasing total damage taken overall is MUCH more efficient than just being a damage soak who gets in a worst case scenario every 15 seconds. avoidance receives exponential returns, stamina is a buffer for the most important stat, being alive or dead. i can rant more, but i do suggest that you, the reader, check out some other forums for a more diverse and complete analysis (math OHNOES lol :P) of gearing.

I have the brooch, and I'll be getting the badge bracers next. And I maintain 490 defense with my autoblocker equipped. I also use the tier 3 armorsmithing chest which has 0 defense as well. I guess it's just a question of how well geared you are to begin with.

But I think I remember somewhere that Blizz was saying that all these new items without defense was supposed to be about giving tanks lots of different options. For example, Vene uses the bonefist gauntlets. And I don't think i'll ever end up using them. The brooch and bracers seem too good to take off atm.

But you end up sacrificing DEF instead, which COULD be a problem, depending on what else you're wearing. There's another post here discussing the Brooch vs the maiden neck, and whether or not you'll be able to keep the Autoblocker depending on what other pieces you have. Good post. :)

With the new badge items, you can get an amazing amount of +hit and expertise without sacrificing hardly any stamina.

Well, all I can say is that my guild runs with less than the recommended number of healers for each instance and keeping me up has never been an issue. And with the extra +hit and expertise, I'm able to give my dps a nice threat ceiling to chase. :)

When I see blind stacking stamina, I think lazy.

You can always slot in +hit with trinkets, rings, etc. if you need it. My heroic blood furnace trinket (+30 hit) gets a lot of use. Makes the decision to stack Stam even easier.

You cannot hit something if you are not alive. ;)

If you feel that your threat output needs to be higher and are willing to sacrifice survivability to do that then that's fine, but the purpose of the post is that you should not let the colour of the sockets influence this decision.

It's important to not blindly gem for stamina. I can't tell you how many poor saps I've seen on the armory that have done this, and their +hit absolutely sucks, for instance.

Balance in all things.
