Weapon Speed: Fast vs Slow
Crazy Fast
- Consistent Rage Generation
- Better Heroic Strike Spamming
Super Slow
- Increased Devastate Damage
- More frequent Weapon Procs (Mongoose)
Winner
Crazy Fast
While you can still tank with a slow weapon, (ie: 2.2-2.7 speed) you are making yourself much more susceptible to losing aggro due to early misses, parries, and dodges. Furthermore, the increased Devastate damage does not make up for the greatly superior threat generation of a fast weapon using Heroic Strike in Moderate to High Rage fights.
So when a [item]Spiteblade[/item] drops… Don’t give your Rogue a real reason to complain ![]()

K, what about having both? And switching to a slow weapon once aggro is established and rage isnt a problem?

“aggro being established” is relative… unless you’re talking about a boss fight where the remainder of the raid is attacking an add or something.
It also depends on the DPS in your group. If you’ve got some freakish, well equipped destro warlocks or fire specced mages who can get a few crits in a row and QUICKLY close the threat gap (especially on non-tauntable mobs), I think I’m sticking with a quicker, more reliable means of attack.
Also, depending on your weapon, you might value the buffs too much. I probably wouldn’t switch from my ‘Suneater’ to my ‘Edge of the Cosmos’ just based on the stam/def/dodge that I’d lose.
BUT, maybe I’ll try doing this on an easy boss somewhere, just to see how my TPS measures up.
