Shield Slam Explained

At its highest rank, Shield Slam causing 420 to 440 damage modified by your shield block value, and has a 50% chance of dispelling 1 magic effect on the target. With only a 6 second cooldown, its a wonder that it only costs 20 rage. (17 with talents)

#1 on Threat

Simply put, Shield Slam is your best threat generating ability because along with doing very good damage, it also has an additional threat modifier.

How much does Block Value help?

Well that all depends on how you spec :P

If you’ve done it right, you have full points in both Shield Mastery and One-handed Specialization because they both increase the damage of your Shield Slams.

( Base Damage[420-440] + (Shield Block Value * 1.3 ) ) * 1.1

This results in: 1 Block Value = 1.43 Additional Damage

My block value is 444 and my non-crit shield slams are typically in the 500-600 range, but rarely over 600 non-crit (if ever). Crits have been as high as 1300+.

I feel like I should be getting more out of my shield slams… is this lack of damage just a factor of mob armor mitigation?

What is your block value? 2. What are your typical shield slams and crits?

I have multiple gear setups, but in standard boss fights my block value is similar to yours. When tanking trash mobs it’s nearly 200 points higher and as a result I’ll hit 1800+ on crits fairly regularly.

Armor is a huge factor. A fully sundered target is going to get hit quite a bit more than a non-sundered target.

    Tip for those doing ZA:

Shieldslam, as mentioned has a chance of dispelling 1 magic effect on the target. If during your fight with Hex Lord, he takes copies the druid, make sure to shieldslam his lifeblooms of him.
