A beautiful post on Motivation
If you remember my post on the 3 Pillars of Tanking, you realize that I think there’s a lot more to succeeding doing it than Spec and Gear. I’d like to think anyone who stumbles onto this site believes this too because they are here to learn even more, to improve.
Well those of you here to learn, read this whole post by Ciderhelm. It’s worth it.

*Nod* Good advice. All I can add to it, really, is that while motivation is important to doing well you shouldn’t let it eat you up. It is, after all, only a game. If your group wipes, if you don’t get the loot you want, if you screw up massively… the amount of it that pertains to real life is minimal.
I want to be a good tank, because I think tanking is fun. However, the moment I start yelling at my friends over a screwup is the moment my warrior gets shelved. For chrissakes I play this game with my younger sister and my man. Keeping on good terms with them trumps any advancement, any day.
I suppose my goal is to be the best I can, and do the best I can as a warrior and not take it too seriously. I read the whole post and I see a little bit of that there. It sounds like the fellow writing the post though took a break from the game, and for that I salute him.
Mind you, there is a fine line in keeping in mind that It’s Only A Game and using that to not take things to seriously, and using It’s Only A Game as an excuse to act like an asshat. Asshats are asshats regardless of what context you encounter them in, real life or otherwise.
