I love my Spec, Take 2!

Back in July, I talked about how I loved my Spec. Recently, my spec has changed and guess what?

I love it.

My new spec (11/7/43) is one purposed by Ciderhelm in this thread on a Maximum Efficiency build.

What’s New?

  • 2 Points in Improved Demoralizing Shout
  • 2 Points in Improved Heroic Strike
  • 1 Point in Anger Management

What’s Gone?

  • 3 Points in Improved Defensive Stance
  • 2 Points in Improved Taunt

Why the Change?

  1. I’ve seen the light so to speak regarding Improved Defensive Stance. While it is necessary for particular fights that have a heavy magic element for the current place I am at in progression, I simply don’t need it.
  2. I’m doing less and less 5 mans. This makes Improved Taunt a natural and easy choice to remove in favour of talents more focused towards raiding. (Yes, I have noticed the loss of it in 5 mans :( )
  3. Improved Heroic Strike and Anger Management allow me to generate more rage and use less resulting in a more threat generation overall. These two abilities are perfect for the DPS race style content that I’m presented with at this time.
  4. Only 2 Points in Improved Demoralizing Shout. At this time due to the mechanics of the game, no more than 2 points is required to remove the maximum amount of Attack Power from an enemy mob. (which is what we want available to us for hard hitting raid bosses) You get no extra benefit of having 5 points in this talent which is perfect because we only have 2 points to use! :D

So there you have it, a new spec. Don’t be afraid to give it a try!

I think you can benefit from 5/5 Improved Demoralizing Shout when a Warlock’s Curse of Recklessness is also being utilized. The extra 3 points will negate the buff from CoR.

    Curse of Recklessness (Rank 5)
    160 Mana 30 yd range
    Instant cast
Curses the target with recklessness, increasing attack power by 135 but reducing armor by 800 for 2 min. Cursed enemies will not flee and will ignore fear effects. Only one Curse per Warlock can be active on any one target.

Whats the point into imp heroic strike? Dont most boss fights give the main tanks close to infinte rage.

Also losing the 3 points in imp defensive is way to much to lose from this healers point of view, hydross = no no

When we get to Hydross, I will be putting the points back in Improved Defensive Stance.

Improved Heroic Strike is the best of the options leading up to anger management and you’d be surprised how fast a warrior can dump rage if he’s paying attention he’ll never hit a full rage bar making Imp Heroic Strike a great investment for pure threat.

There are certain bosses where we can’t actually use demoralising shout i.e. Gruul, where the warlock debuff is better and it stuffs up that debuff. Not to mention when that debuff is on, I can’t see demoralising shout going up anyway. Sorry, can’t remember which curse it is.

Focused Rage + Imp HS in a Revenge, SS, HS spam rotation = crazy threat!

Curse of Weakness is what reduce AP from bosses. Screech from hunter pets also.

  8. Veneretio Says:

It is Curse of Weakness that reduces AP, but by using Curse of Recklessness you can get the full effect of 5/5 Imp Demo Shout coupled with 800 less armor on the target.

I’ve been trying this spec for the past few weeks in Kara. I must say, enjoyed it! I already had the points in improved HS, but I added Anger management and the points in improved demo shout.

The extra rage seems noticeable and it’s probably no coincidence that I’ve been able to stay alive much easier (esp. during Prince phase 2) with improved demo shout.

Huge thanks for the advice! As always, I love this forum. Keep up the great work!

its an interesting spec, but not for me at the moment. I need the heroic 5mans to build up rep/get money/get quests done which pretty much equates into getting properly geared. Your 8/5/48 spec is the one i’m running right now with pretty good results in 5man and in kara. But I can see how this can work well for well geared tanks that have progressed pretty far into the TBC content. Bookmarked for future use! =D

What I find interesting is that you don’t have any points in improved sunder. Since points spent here will affect the cost of your devastate. Imp sunder + focused rage will bring the cost of devastate down to 9 rage. This is very handy at the start of a fight and I would assume more efficient than saving 2 rage those times you use heroic strike.

You should add my spec for very nice threat generation.

    17/0/44.

I use the wrath trinket to keep crits coming and bleeds bleeding. It also means revenge, HS, shield slam etc all crit for more. I got ZA/Badges gear and last time i did Kara i had 1.7k TPS steady on endless rage bosses…

You wont find any dps who can out threat that.

i like the 11/7/43 but put only 4/5 anticipation and 3/3 imp sunder

Geros reply on June 9, 2008 8:51 am:

I would advocate taking 2 points from imp bloodrage and 1 point from SW to get the 3/3 sunder. 6 points of rage per TPS cycle is far better than 6 rage per minute. If snap aggro is important, let a pally tank the first mob or get a MD. You can still time your bloodrage effectively and open with a SS anyways.

I get a little confused that 3/3 imp sunder isn’t a “must-have” talent with any protection build to be honest.
