I got the Xavian Stiletto from Illhoof as a consolation prize for not getting anything else on a Karazhan run. I find it's a great tool when soloing or when I'm not tanking and need to increase my DPS. The speed on the throw is a huge plus when pulling patrols.

Can someone link a proper macro for me pls. I have tried making one myself but it wont work. I want to make a pulling macro that:

1) Equippes my throwing weapon (Merciless Gladiator’s War Edge)
2) Throws
3) Equippes my Gyro-Balanced Khorium Destroyer

This should give me a fast pull and then let me have the stamina from the gun during the fight, right?

I like pulling with my heavy dps bow from the Prince due to the initial higher hit=more threat, but I carry a throwing weapon with me just for those moments I need more accurate, fast pulling or if I run out of ammo (yes, it's happened at least twice).

Oh, and side note: once you're in combat, changing weapons activates the global cooldown. If you're not in combat, it doesn't.

Try something like this:
/cast throw
/equip [equipped:thrown] Gyro-Balanced Khorium Destroyer; ThrowingWeapon

If you have a dagger equipped, it will try to throw, then equip your gun. If you don't have a dagger equipped, it will just equip your throwing weapon.

Should be a two-click macro, but I haven't tested it

Creampuf - apparently you are Mr. Amazing pull and have never ever missed a patrol or sensitive pull 'cause your gun took too long. The point isn't to save a second each pull, it's to save the 60 seconds waiting for the patrol to come back and keep the pace up.

The point about tanks who are new to heroics/kara is well put, though. If you are a new enough tank that Heroic or kara trash still threatens your life, then you obviously aren't ready to prioritize pull accuracy/speed over survival. If the stats on your ranged weapon are still necessary to keep you alive, then this post is beyond you, aye...

Agreed. That's basically what I was getting at with the first half of my comment. I wish I'd read JUST ONE MORE before posting. *sigh*

I think people are really misunderstanding the where the speed advantage comes to play. The speed gain is NOT in the one second less it takes to pull, the speed gain is in being able to more reliably pull trash that patrols.

For me the classic example is Shade trash in Kara. I'm sure anyone that's been running Kara for months upon months hates that trash. All those patrolling robots that pat rather fast. I'm sure we've all experienced that on occasion they will pat out of range before your gun can shoot. Yet if you try move back into range to pull again you greatly increase the risk of adds. Since I started using a thrown weapon I've GREATLY decreased the situations where I miss a guy because of bad timing. I've decreased the instances where there is "downtime" because the robot pats out of range and then we sit there having to wait for him to pat back. If we're just finishing a pull as the next is patrolling away using a thrown weapon I now actually have a chance to position myself to make the pull in time. It really DOES make a difference.

Another big advantage I don't believe I've seen ANYONE mention is pulling while in combat, or chain pulling.

For me the classic example of this is ZA Gauntlet heading to the Eagle boss. I pull the Tempest as soon as possible because I know when he's pulled the adds stop. I ALWAYS pull while working on the previous set of adds. When shooting a gun or bow or even throwing the action acts like a cast. So basically it's having a 1.5 second cast time vs a .5 second cast time in which you're taking unmitigated hits. AND to make matters worse, these "casts" are slowed (just like casters in your group when they get hit) each time you're hit by whatever you're tanking at the time. What this means is the shorter "cast" time of the thrown weapon gets slowed a whole lot less and not only am I pulling the Tempest faster, but I'm spending less time taking unmitigated hits from whatever I am tanking.

Aargh, Nethershrike has been vendor-sold for months, but lately the pulling speed of my GBKD has been driving me mad. Thanks for the pointer. Maybe I snag Nightstrike sometime when I run another bunch of people through MagT.
