Deathfrost does NOT stack

…with Thunderclap, or at least not in the way you want it to.

Yes, you’ll see the debuff, but it only applies the ranged and cast speed slowing affects. It does not apply a melee attack speed slow affect.

I’m making 1 assumption

Can you guess what it is?

You have Improved Thunderclap. Deathfrost being 15% reduction means it will do more than a regular Thunderclap, but even then, it does not stack. There’s no 10% + 15% or 20% + 15%. It doesn’t stack with the melee portion which is the only portion that truly matters. It only improves the melee portion if you don’t have Improved Thunderclap. But, you really should have Improved Thunderclap!

So, where does it rank?

1. Executioner
1. Mongoose
3. Deathfrost
3. Greater Agility
5. Battlemaster

Deathfrost is about the same as Greater Agility, (an enchant often forgotten as being useful to tanks) significantly better than Battlemaster and significantly worse than both Executioner and Mongoose. (between those two it’s totally up to taste as to which you should use) At a cost of only 2 Primal Shadows and 2 Primal Waters, Deathfrost is the poor tanks weapon enchant of choice.

Ultimately though, you should stick with your old favourite be it Executioner or Mongoose and pass on this flavour of the month.

What about the extra 150 damage from a threat perspective?

I’m assuming it doesn’t proc enough to make enough of a difference…

Yup, proc rate is basically 1 ppm. Not bad, but nothing special either. You’ll see greater threat from both Executioner and Mongoose.

Darn, I was kinda excited at the idea of an enchant that was 100% for tanks. Ah well…one thing though: if a person in another group of the raid used this, would it stack? I assume no?

    Nope, it still won’t stack.

I’ve found that Deathfrost is a good support enchant for caster heavy bosses, as thunder clap does not affect cast time. It’s ideal for an OH on an enhance shammy, as both spells and melee can proc it, but I wouldn’t really use it for tanking.

Can someone confirm if it gains from spell damage? If so, then it might be decent for pally tanks, if nothing else.

I think it’s fairly safe to say that spell damage will not increase the damage of it otherwise it’d be too good for some classes.

It is definately not affected my spell damage. It also does not proc off of consecrate ticks or reflected damage which makes it even worse for a pally tank than it would be for a warrior.

You’re probably better off with an arcane mage in your raid casting Slow. This works to slow down casting on at least some bosses, but it’s hard to tell which.

lol this enchant is so bad…

Threw it on my rogue’s offhand to see how much it procced. Killed 13 mobs by only spamming shiv and it procced ONCE.

Don’t even bother with this enchant imo. Save your gold for a real enchant

What about Adamantite Weapon Chain (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33185)?

It’s definitely still got its uses, and should be on an offtanking weapon. I’d whip it out for Heroic MgT’s last boss, for instance; or tanking the priest on Fathom Lord, or Shade of Aran…

I wonder if it affects Hex Lord’s shadowbolts, or if it affects Magic Missile channeling (since thunderclap hits everything, I’d think that Deathfrost does too…maybe someone could clarify?)

Deathfrost is a useful PvP enchant for those who like to Prot PvP since it provides useful functions in an efficient manner. There are a few melee PvPer’s in my guild who like it.

According to the EJ forums it doesn’t miss and uses the spell crit rate. If its accuracy is true it makes it interesting against targets with high miss rates (such as rogues with CoS).

Probably a good enchant for a prot pally or feral druid to have on an extra weapon. 15% slow is pretty huge if they don’t have a warrior around to back them up with Imp. TC.

Druids don’t get to have proc on hit effects work with their weapons currently so its pretty useless for a druid to have. Now if one of the melee had it on an extra weapon with a druid it would be nice but for a druid its not.

How badass would that be if it stacked with Thunderfury though? :)

Are there any reports of this proc affecting bosses that are otherwise immune to curse of tongues and the like? Perhaps that would boost its usability.

In terms of a Pali-tank (I know what am I doing here?) It does proc off the “first” tick of concencration, and holy shield too if i can remember. Can be useful if you have multipul casters/trash mobs. This could reduce some incoming damage nicely if you pull alot of aoe trash, or MH trash mayhaps?

My guild currently has a use for it.

Our Enhance Shaman has an Executioner / Deathfrost combo on his weapons. It seems to be the best use for it. Also, since it can work of spell casts, you can have them cast lightning bolts at the gargoyles in MH (since they are attacking the other casters) until they pull aggro, then ghost wolf to outrange them and they are taken over by another tank once they are on the ground.
