Do we have Infinite Rage or No Rage?

When I logged onto the PTR just moments ago, I noticed a funny glitch in my UI.

Infinite or No Rage?

I re-logged and it still looked weird. I re-logged again and still no rage bar. So, I went hunting on the PTR forums and immediately found a thread about this change by the crazy crab himself.

What does this mean?

Well you’d think such a change would have a massive effect on us as tanks and you’d be right… and you’d be wrong. On bosses, we’ve enjoyed nearly infinite rage for some time and as such, we shouldn’t notice any real difference. For trash, 5-mans and offtanking though this is an amazing buff and exactly what we’ve always needed to ensure that we can tank effectively as our gear improves or if we just aren’t getting hit at all.

But, Druids got to keep there Rage!

It’s true, but in a sense so did we. We’ve just got an endless supply of it now. Even from a flavour standpoint it kinda makes sense because you’d assume after 80 levels that we’d finally have learned to stay in a state of constant rage. What’s really exciting too is that there are a lot of boring rage efficiency talents like Improved Heroic Strike, Puncture and Focused Rage that we can expect to be replaced with new, fun talents.

So, folks what do you think of the change… is the glass half-full or half-empty?

Funny thing, Ven. When I was on the PTR earlier today, I noticed my mana bar had disappeared also. I thought it was a bug myself. But I realized I could still cast my spells! I guess Blizzard finally realized that since mana is a non factor for healers right now at this point in the game, there is no point in having a mana bar at all for casting spells.

    /high five!

  4. Hakushi Says:

I have to say, as a healer, this is a fantastic change. More, this should allow my tanks to get all the aggro anyone can want from tanking every fight like it is a boss fight! I’ll tell you, running with under-geared tanks in heroics look to be a lot less painful, with the threat generation they need finally there.

  6. delta38 Says:

    Is this one really true?

Just can’t believe it. That would be an incredible change and make our playstyle much smoother, because it is much easier to plan the use of certain abilities.

I don’t hate anything more than needing to use a certain ability, having its CD ready and failing in that situation because of having no rage. Be it because of having avoidance-”luck” in advance or simple having blown a little too much because of DDs closing up in omen.

So to me, the glass seems half-FULL :)

We’ll have to see how this change works out, when its on live / tested on PTR, but in a first glance I can’t see any disadvantages.

However nice a change it would be, it’s too unbalanced.
Think about arms warrs proccing Sudden Death with infinite rage.
Or just when you get to the last 20ish percentages of a boss and spam executes.
It’s reasonable for tanking, but hugely unbalanced for DPS warrs.

  36. Cingy Says:

I am not sure if I am happy with this. Sure, it will take away an annoyance from tanking, but what will it do to game balance. In my experience, this kind of major buffs tend to have unwanted side effects. I dont know what they will be, but here is what I think will happen.

By removing the problems of rage generation, figths will speed up and agro issues are reduced. Blizz will then have to find something else to add complication and length to fights. Lets say they will introduce frequent agro resets. Then this new addition will become the next problem in the game.

My main is priest, and in my opinion priests are in a problem solution cycle at the moment. First we got fire and forget Circle of Healing, then it was overused so it needed a nerf, making less geared priest struggle on group heal. So in 3.1 we get a buff to prayer of healing, which i think will make it overpowered. None of this would have been needed, if CoH would never have been made self targetting.

I have to say, it makes me nervous. Every class has some kind of “power” (mana, energy, runes) they have to manage in order to use special abilities. Granted, any experienced warrior don’t have much of an issue managing their rage, but still. I’m nervous because I wonder what will be the counter-balance. I’ve been having a blast with this new change. Taking out all the rage-related talents in my trees also opened up a lot of different specs. I think it will also see tanks putting more damage out on trash mobs, when they frequently are rage starved (at least I see that far too much). This will also help immensely for the prot-war off-tank. Nice DPS boost without having to pull aggro from the MT to gain rage. I think I’ll like it if it makes it to the live servers.

Another benefit - PVP. Hard to gain an upper hand if you’re ganked and don’t have that initial rage boost from charge.

Maybe Improved Bloodrage could be moved deeper into the Prot tree and its effects increased?

As poster said above its disheartening to see Palas and DK’s go “balls to the wall” at the start of the pull while I get “not enough rage”, “need more rage” and in between pulls have to taunt critters to stay in combat to stop my rage decaying.
