You get what you Pay for…

It’s funny how WoW mirrors life so often. As much as you and I love to look around for this great deal or that great deal eventually we can’t kid ourselves. The expensive stuff is the good stuff. Ulduar recently added 2 such pieces that truly embody this reality.

1. Indestructible Plate Girdle

While Shieldwarder Girdle is a solid threat piece, (if you’ve even got access to that many Emblems of Conquest) it doesn’t hold a candle to the raw overall survival gain you’ll get from this crafted belt that you can get for the not so low price of:

2. Spiked Deathdealers

Now you may be fortunate enough to be completing Mimiron’s hard mode right now and if you are then you may want to hold off for Greaves of the Iron Army, but if you’re like most people, these boots are a massive survival upgrade over anything in Naxx or Ulduar for that matter. You can take a pair home for:

So when there’s nothing to do…

It’s time to start farming just plain, old gold again. Right now Runed Orbs will be at a ridiculously high price, but if you’ve got the change to spare, you’re going to get some amazing, long lasting pieces to help you in your travels. If you’re not rich, be patient eventually Orbs will go down in price and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a few of your own out of Ulduar along the way too.

Only thing holding me back are the runed orbs XD, just like when i was tanking with Blazefury, it involved Nether Vortexes. But def the good stuff is the crafted epics.

Lol im competing with a resto shammy for my guild orbs XD.

Ya, my guild doesn’t seem too motivated to make this stuff just yet since in the guild we don’t have any of the patterns yet. I’ve finally got a connection to craft both parts so you’ll see me sporting them both sooner than later. (although I probably can only justify making 1 piece for a bit until we get more orbs)

I recently got the Indestructible Plate Girdle, the Titansteel bars I had been stockpiling ever since I heard about these new recipes and the Saronite wasn’t an issue. But I must have stalked the AH for about… well ever since Ulduar came out, cost me around 7600g in Runed Orbs, but it was totally worth it, replacing my old Heroism badge belt.

I had be farming dailies and Outland quests (done all my Northrend ones) like a mad man, think I’ll hold off on the boots for a week or two before I start getting back into crazy daily mode again.

    So, along those lines…

Anybody found any decent Atamal’s Terrace-style farming areas for tanks they’d like to share? :D

You could try down near Jotunheim village near Shadow Vaults, there’s a big round circle with vykrul training like the AT. I go there and gather 8-10 at once and in tanking gear their not really that hard to beat. The only thing is they do a annoying knockback that can throw you into other groups.

If your really daring, I guess you could try down near the gate in Icecrown where the Argent Tournament daily is. Alot of mobs there.

    Good luck!

I was thinking of “getting in line” for 6 orbs in my guild, but they’re really only being passed out for patterns the guild already has. I’m probably on my own for attaining orbs to get something made from someone out of guild.

Asking can’t hurt and your guild should be watching out for another guild to team up with to make stuff for each other free of charge.

I was about third in line for my orbs. I was so excited to get them last week, to realize there were only two people on my server who can craft them. Considering one hasn’t logged in days, and the only only logs on for raids, I’m a very sad panda my delicious belt hasn’t been crafted. :(

I’m actually going to craft the dps belt and use it to tank with. Loaded with expertise, and the ability to gem for HP if desired, it’s a great piece for an offtank (which I am).

Just need to farm the titansteel and saronite on my girlfriend’s priest…

I was fortunate in that my guild invested in our main tanks by giving the two of us first shot at orbs from our Ulduar runs. I was grateful!

One thing my guild does that I think a lot of guilds should implement (and I kind of feel like it was my idea):

As a tank in my guild I got priority on all my set tokens. Since I saved 50 some badges (as most of my guild decided to buy their set helm from badges) I bought 3 orbs with my own badges and only asked for 3 from the guild bank in order to help the guild bank since at that point we still had very few. I was also the first person in my guild to make anything with them, but from that point on they made everyone have 3 orbs of their own from badges before being given any by the guild bank.

Also, my guild runs 2 full 10 mans a week and kill most of the hard modes (all of them in the main run all but mimiron in the alt run) which yields at least 6 more orbs a week for the guild bank if not more.

also, if you only want one of them, here is a comparison on the 10 man Razorscale belt and the 25 man Thadius boots:

I wish my guild had Tank-Priority. Some of the Tokens have been going for 200-350 DKP to the Hunters and Shamans. I don’t have that much DKP since I’ve spent the majority on items off of other bosses. I just got my 2 pieces of 8.5 last week, but as of 3 weeks after U25 going Live, I had drops off of almost every boss as far as non-token items. Kinda twisted that it works that way, imo. The only non-set items I have yet to pickup are the Gun, Rings, Neck and 1 Trinket. Really only seen 1 or less of each of those things drop anyhow.

I’m really not looking forward to giving up my 7.5 2-set bonus. I like the 4-set from 8.5 and the 2-set is ok, but will miss the raw threat of 7.5 2-set. The 4-set from 8.5 is also only partial up-time and useful only if taking Magical Damage. It’s about time we got some magic mitigation, but this seems more of a half-measure.

Our guild allows Runed Orbs to be purchased for 10 DKP. We’ve collected quite a few, since we have 2 groups running U25, and we have a Priority system for distributing them.

Tanks and Healers are getting first dibs, and the highest ranking players with the best attendance after that. I have both my Belt and Boots crafted now. Had the belt for over a month now (we got a pattern drop), and just got the boots last week (since I had to farm some Eternal Fire).

These are huge upgrades until some hard mode stuff, as Vene pointed out, and as he also said… make it your priority to get them. Talk to your guild leader about setting up a system, and point out that these are BiS items. Either that, or farm the gold and spend the Emblems on Orbs (since there isn’t much else good to spend them on after Tokens).

  10. Tankette Says:

I farmed like crazy and got both the belt and boots within about 2 weeks of Ulduar being released. I got half the runed orbs from the guild and bought the other half on the AH. The prices varied but averaged about 2000g each. Then the tip to get them crafted was 1000g each since only one person on the server could make the belt and only two people on the server could make the boots.

Cleaved reply on June 8, 2009 6:47 am:

There are 3 people that could make the boots on our server, and we had a person in guild that could make the Belt. One person (for the boots) wanted 250g, another wanted 350g, and I waited a week and actually found someone that would make them and didn’t even ask for a tip. So I tipped him 150g for being so awesome. (^_^) I’m kind of frugal when it comes to money, in-game and out. I spend it when I have to, and lend it to friends when I can… I’m not miserly, but if I don’t HAVE to spend it, I avoid doing so. I farm most stuff that I need with my army of alts and their professions. One of these days I’ll have to dip into the reserves for something, but Runed Orbs wasn’t something I was going to kill half my savings on @2-2.5k each.

I tend to focus on making money in WoW and in RL. I can make 2-3K gold in a day if thats what I am focused on. I enjoy farming sometimes. In RL, my wife likes to shop so I have had to move aggressively up the corporate ladder over the years.

I will purchase things on the AH or from people in /trade. The times I don’t do so… are when prices are outrageous, or someone is price-gouging on a particular item. Even if I can farm the stuff I need, if it’s a good deal, I will buy it rather than farm it. Making gold isn’t hard in WoW, it just takes time and sometimes a bit of luck. I can go farm some Tiger Lily for something completely unrelated to Flasks, and end up with more Frost Lotus than a day of farming multiple zones for Flask materials. Luck does play a part, but even just knuckling down and doing some dailies, especially with multiple toons, can turn out very profitable. I actually like to Farm stuff when I’m bored, rather than get bored while farming when I don’t really want to. I find its a good cure for boredom, because you do it until you figure out something better you could be doing ;)

  11. Cornfedhick Says:

I’ve done almost every quest in every zone while leveling on my main. I never bothered with that on my alts and there are tons of quests in Stormpeaks, Icecrown, Zul Drak, etc that are fast and give 10+ gold or more and are a lot more fun than doing the same dailies over and over (unless you need more rep for some reason). Plus, with having done most of them already they are familiar and speed up the process even more. Additionally, you can easily vendor the items you get from the quest rewards for even more gold.

I picked up both the Stormtempered Girdle and the Dragonslayer’s Brace today. The Stormtempered Girdle seems to be hurting in the itemization department compared with the Ablative Chitin Girdle. The Ablative Chitin Girdle is almost identical but has a socket. The socket seems to be missing on Stormtempered Girdle. The Dragonslayer’s Brace will definitely find a spot in my block rating set.

With these two belts I’m not in a hurry to get the crafted belt. I may look closely at the Spiked Death Dealers, however, we’ve only seen one Runed Orb drop.

  13. Alzenoth Says:

Gotten both the belt and boots and it was 100% worth it, even with having to buy 7 of the runed orbs myself.

The avoidance and EH boost was awesome. Threat still hasn’t been a major issue outside Hodir.
