The End.
It’s funny how quickly time passes. Many have inquired as to what the status of this site is and truthfully, I didn’t know until recently myself. I considered many options, but ultimately, it only makes sense with me leaving WoW that the site should end too.
Running this site has been as rewarding as playing the game itself. As I told my guildmates, I walk away from this game with no regrets and a wealth of life experiences. Thank you for reading, commenting and sharing this website with your fellow guildmates.
My hope is that you enjoy your WoW journey as much as I did.
Cheers,
Veneretio

It’s a shame to see this site closing down, but it’s understandable. You’ve been an amazing resource for the community, Vene, so thanks for that. You were a big part of what inspired me to switch from DPS (and Healing) to tanking seriously, and you provided a lot of insight into how I could be the best tank I can. I’m sure many others will say the same. Thanks for all your hard work! I’ve never commented much on your posts, but I’ve always been a lurker, watching and learning from all you’ve had to say.
Good luck in the future, wherever it takes you. And I do hope you’ll still be on twitter from time to time.

Awww Vene, I’m REALLY going to miss this site.
- It’s like Elitist Jerks, without being elitist (or the jerks)
- It’s like Tankspot, but always with a more relevant editorial content; you always had a knack of pin-pointing the issues we should be discussing
(plus you don’t have to watch videos to see what’s being discussed ; which is a plus for us sneaky-stuck-in-work-shouldn’t-really-be-reading-this types !)
Anyway, assuming it isn’t 1st April in whatever dimension you currently inhabit I’m just going to add my personal thanks for all the work you’ve put in over the years to create an entertaining, accessible and informative site; and wish you every success in whatever direction your future takes you.

It’s a sad, sad day for all us warrior tanks out there (and many more). Began following this site early in BC and have read every post in detail sice then. I especially like the theorycrafting about the role of “beeing a tank is more than just tanking” and the comparasion of items posts.
May I dare to ask what made you make the final decision, did you just don’t have that spark of expectations about the next expansion?
Finally, thank’s for making my tanking days easier and my tanking style better!

Veneretio reply on October 27, 2010 8:22 pm:
I think what it mostly came down to was me cutting back my time playing this expansion, this expansion just not delivering in the ways I wanted it to and the game just not having the same amount of mystery it had when I first started. Cataclysm looks very exciting, but I’m also enjoying having free evenings and weekends these days and I just wouldn’t enjoy Cataclysm playing once or twice a week. Basically, I’ll never be a casual gamer. I’m obsessive. I know that about myself. WoW just wouldn’t be WoW for me without raiding leading and writing.

My Heartfelt Thanks for the site. Must say it is a sad day to see you go. Have to remember that it is a game, and that to keep at the top of the game takes a lot of time, and real life has to take priority and take people away from the game.
Must say that have only been playing for a couple years, and when I hit 80 as protection warrior,(not sure why I picked def, except maybe I liked the shield) I had NO IDEA what I was doing. Gogle search brought me here, and I can say that your site is the only reason I have managed to survive as long as I have a prot warrior. Posts were always informative, and a good source of discussion to give all sides to an issue/question.

Bugga! first i go away for a few weeks and get the massive umpteen gig of patch. 3 days later I log on to find everything changed including talent trees. I go to my trusty and long serving source of all that is tank and . . .
You changed my warrior into prot from lvl 40 in BC days. I have always turned to this corner when I was doubtful or losing my way as a tank.
Love your style, your explanations and also your wit. Gonna miss this site.
PS your podcast was my very first one I downloaded!

Vene,
I want to thank you for all the things you’ve done for me (and many others). What impressed me most was your uncanny ability to cut through all the theoretical min-maxing numbers that might be significant for either mathematicians (hi, EJ contributors!), or top-end near-flawless raiding guilds. You were able to go past that and help “real-life” tanks like me - the ones doing heroics with pugs, going into 10 (no, not 25, no, not heroic) and needed the gear and the tips for THAT. And who’d mess up a perfect rotation
You helped to point out how to recover from that, how to gear reasonably, and so much more.
You managed to back up my “gut feeling” with good arguments that I lacked - helping me defend my choices a lot better than I would have been able to all by myself.
I wish you the best of luck, and I dread the void that you’re leaving behind (hoping, of course, that you’ll see the folly in your choice of pretending to be able to quit WoW!)

This blog (and it’s readers/commenters) is not only one of the major reasons I started to develop into a skilled tank, but it’s also been a very good read. I have no idea what you do outside of wow and this blog, but I guess you will continue to contribute insights and knowledge to other people. In one way or another.
When you do, be sure to use all those e-mails you have stored in your database somewhere – and let us know.

Im just wondering over 1 thing… you say your leaving WOW…where are you going…are you leaving to go into that RL game im hearing about?
Is that where they drop that “Life” everyone in my guild keeps talking about?
If so could u please reply soon and let me know what mobs in the game drop the “Life” since i cant find a propper database for this “life” drop rate or even the mobs it drops of…. hmmm one guy said it was a legendary drop, im not sure i belive that though, more like a rare or very rare even.
With regards and best wishes on your travells in that RL game of yours.
P.S. if you have a Beta key for it please send me a copy, i would love to try it out..

This blog was my first third-party resource consulted when I decided to get serious about tanking well and properly attuning my warrior’s stats and equipment to be better at defensive combat and protecting the group/raid.
It was easy to read, usually no-nonsense and to the point, and guided me in understanding the fundamentals with which I learned to make my own choices.
So thanks, Veneretio. It’ll be harder going into the expansion without this community’s tips, but I think I’ve learned enough to need less hand-holding.

For writing your posts, recording podcasts, answering questions and asking the other ones, making discussions. For teaching a noob with his TBC prot/fury spec how to be a tank. You’ve made me a real one, to the point that dpsing on my main (or any other dpsing class/spec) started being boring.
You and your blog (and tanking of course) been also some of the most important things that made me back from my last two or three breaks from WoW, other than my group of merry guildies and friends. Seems I’ll have one less reason to come back again.
For all of that, thank you, again. Best of luck in whatever will get your attention.

Vene, over the years of my warrior career I have seeked out great players better than myself. I have found many, hundreds, if not thousands. From each person I gained something of value, certainly many things that I have had not known or ever hoped to know without assistance.
Out of all of the thousands of people that I have gathered insight from, one of the most valuable was you. During the years of my conquest to tank greatness, I have never found a bigger idol, a stronger advisor, or a better tank to go to when I needed help, and all the time, without asking anything from you, you had provided the answers to those questions. From the latest tank specs, to the minorist of things, you covered it all in one way or another. And for that, I can never re-pay you in any way possible for all the help you have provided myself with and millions of other people.
The sudden leave of a legend within the community will be a great loss, we’ll all have to carry the wings of Vene and pickup where the fire’s left off.
So with this, I bid you farewell Veneretio
You and I will meet again,
When we’re least expecting it,
One day in some far off place,
I will recognize your name,
I won’t say goodbye my friend,
For you and I will meet again.

This was the first site I’d always recommend to our guild tanks or any struggling pug tank we found. There’s the cold theory crafting of EJ, the (at the time) lesser known Tankspot but your blogs always had a slightly more human touch. There were posts about tanking and stuff of course, but there were motivational ones hidden away as well which would help to pull our floundering brothers and sisters into greatness.
I should know, I was one of them.
Oh and the April Fools’. You got me the Thunderfury year you git.

Wow. When I saw the subject line “The End” in my Google Reader, my jaw dropped. It’s hard to believe it’s been 3 years since I first found this site. I was a brand new tank in a new guild just getting into Kara. It quickly became my favorite tanking source. You had the best way of taking information and summing it up into something I could immediately go out and start applying to be a better tank. On top of that, you would always find the best topics to spur some amazing comment conversations.
Oh, how I loved the badge/emblem pick order posts!
That this is the end is kind of fitting for me. To be honest, I’m pretty much done with tanking. As much as I loved it, I’m burned out after doing it for the past 3 years. The extra preparation and pressure has taken its toll on me. I’m retiring from my tanking days with the intention to head into Cataclysm with my mage from vanilla.
Thanks again for this site and for being such an incredible resource for all of us. Good luck to you in whatever you pursue next.

I’ve checked this site every single week, and I think I’ve read every article on the sight, drawing something from each post. After about 30 mins of questioning, he told me to look up this site. Sad to see you go. This website was invaluable to me as I was gearing up my prot warrior in LK. Sadly he is now mostly retired from tanking as the grind/burnout from Naxx/Ulduar/TOC/ICC took it’s toll. Best wishes in your future endeavors.

I had been gone from WoW for a bit, and came back to find a drastically changed game (due to the recent pre-Cata patches). I was saddened to see the resource I hit FIRST to find out what is what with the state of Warrior Tanking had closed its doors.
Was a pleasure to read all the great information on here, as well as the great back and forth of the commentary from visitors.

Vene,
I’m going to miss this site. I’ve been reading this site since early BC, and loved the discussion that was started with your postings. I rarely posted, but felt i had to say something as your site has been a MAJOR help in my warrior tanking career. You will be missed.
I would also like to thank the warrior community on this site. It has been a pleasure.

Nooooooo.
I named my Darkspear Horde spy GyshVeneKav. I always found it a bit odd that I never learned a damn thing from any DS Alliance warrior but 3 Horde Warriors did in part give me something to think about as a Prot Warrior.
Thanks

It’s been enjoyable reading your posts, using your advice and engaging in discussions here. Thanks for running it as long and as well as you did. Are you leaving gaming altogether or just losing interest in WoW itself? I left back in April ‘10 and haven’t looked back but I’ve found a new F2P mmo that I’m really enjoying….more than the 5 years spent on WoW. Amazing.

Vene,
I stumbled into your postings when the random dungeon finder first came online with WoLK. I found your postings informative and instructive. WoW! I wish I had found it during my BC days. I took and followed the advice I found relative to PROT warriors.
You should be proud and I am grateful for what you helped me create:

I am better tank because of your personal efforts and contributions.

Vene, thank you so much not only for your info, tips, advice and for sharing your experience, but thanks for making the game more fun for me. Tanking holds my favourite memories and you did that. I knew I wanted to tank, I didn’t know how, I found your site and I felt like i was being welcomed into a little family. Thank you for that most of all. I’m an on and off player coming back to see what cata is all about, but i know you’ll put that analytical brain, thirst for knowledge, and gentlemanly nature to good use wherever you go. Adios my friend and thanks for the memories.

Thought I’dd look up TankingTips.com for some info on the new specs and stuff.
Sad to see this Vene…
You always were a nice read and full of interesting views! I learned much of you and the discussions you inspired!
I hope your journey in RL will be as great as mine be these last years.

well, all the best for you Vene, but as maaany have said before, you were a source of inspiration and the main reason I got a bit of confidence in tanking a year ago… I feel lonely now, in a few days I´ll be lvl 85 and will start new instances… without your posts will be more than a challenge!

This site was an invaluable tool when I took my first tentative steps into warrior tanking those years ago (before I eventually went over to the dark side that is playing a pally) Your site was always an entertaining and informative read so thanks for the effort in making the tanking world a more interesting place. All the best

Oh Vene .. When I first started tanking during Wrath-era Naxx, I was but a confused, young tank, quickly finding resources of knowledge to cling to, making the transition from heroic dungeons to full 25-man raids an easier bit. My first place to come was always tankingtips, even ahead of tankspot (when tanks ACTUALLY did the videos). It’s sad to see you go; you’ve helped me grow as a tank with your many insights. I read your final post nearly a year ago, and today a person in guild chat asked a tanking question. My first thought was of this website.
If you ever bring this puppy back up, I implore you to alert me via e-mail my friend. My tanking isn’t up to par without your weekly tips!

Vene, it has been a year since your last post and we miss your insightful posts. Your posts helped this tanking noob become a raid tank. Hopefully with a new patch upcoming or even the next expansion, you find your way back to tanking in WoW and writing again. Thanks again for all that you have done.
